Sectional aluminium guttering is so called because it is manufactured in sections which require bolting or riveting together with waterproof bedding compound such as silicone. This is contrary to the seamless aluminium guttering that is produced in continuous straight lengths.

Several reasons for instance:

1. It is available in many different styles and shapes (unlike the seamless which is only available in the one shape).
2. It is available in many different sizes (unlike the seamless which is only available in two sizes).
3. It is available in any colour from the RAL or BS4800 range (unlike the seamless which is only available in black, white and brown).
4. More than twice as thick (2mm) and more robust than the seamless gutters.
